RANGERS TRADE GABORIK TO COLUMBUS
The Columbus Blue Jackets acquired winger Marian Gaborik and defensemen Steven Delisle and Blake Parlett from the New York Rangers for center Derick Brassard, winger Derek Dorsett, defenseman John Moore and a sixth-round draft pick in 2014.
What does it give the Columbus Blue Jackets
In Gaborik, the Blue Jackets land a legitimate sniper with game-breaking skills. This was a must addition for the Jackets as they attempt to make the playoffs this season. Gaborik may play alongside former Ranger {P Vaclav Prospal}, a legitimate playmaker. He also knows {P Brandon Dubinsky} and {P Artem Anisimov} well. This move also gives the Jackets a natural right-winger in Gaborik, allowing natural center {P Mark Letestu} to move back to the middle from right wing.
What does it give the New York Rangers
The Blueshirts addressed several needs with this move. First, landing a legitimate offensive type in Brassard was a must. They also land a mobile defender in Moore and gritty winger Dorsett. Brassard played some with {P Rick Nash} in Columbus, so look for that combination to emerge once again. Also, Gaborik wasn't happy playing left wing or a third-line role on Broadway, so this deal alleviates that problem as well. Overall, this was a great deal for both teams.
Fantasy impact
Gaborik should have a short-term boost in production, since he is once again the top dog on an NHL squad. Brassard was enjoying recent success with the Jackets, but must now adjust to the Rangers' system. There may be short-term loss but long-term gain with regards to Brassard's fantasy value. Moore could play more in New York but his fantasy value is limited (for now).
