Hamonic played for the first time in five games in December when he logged three hits, two blocked shots and two PIM in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Flames.
Hamonic landed a one-year, $1 million contract with Detroit on Friday.
Is still a tough defenseman to play against, but his offensive skills and ice time have dropped off somewhat now that he is on the far side of 30. He is as tough as nails and will sacrifice his body to block a shot or step up to defend a teammate, making him useful in a shutdown role and when killing penalties. Injuries have been a problem for him later in his NHL career.
Long Range Potential: Solid defensive defenseman (when healthy).
