The Russian defenseman plays a physical style, but he has to make sure he does not sacrifice positioning in search of the big hit. He is at his best when he keeps his game smart and simple, letting the opportunities for big hits come to him. He is not likely to fill up the scoresheet but looks like a good stay-at-home complement for a partner who likes to join the rush.
