DiPietro was placed on waivers by the Bruins for the purpose of assignment to AHL Providence, Belle Fraser of the Bruins' official site reports Sunday.
DiPietro will defend the road net in preseason action against Philadelphia on Saturday.
A little on the smallish side by NHL goaltending standards, he had a lot of success in both junior hockey and the AHL (though he struggled some in his first few NHL appearances). Has a solid glove hand, is improving technically and getting better at challenging shooters. He still has to add upper-body strength and show that he can be a consistently successful starter at the NHL level.
