Slavin (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Monday.
The Hurricanes announced Monday that Slavin is considered week-to-week due to an upper-body injury.
The fourth-round pick in the 2012 NHL Draft is one of the league's most unheralded but effective players. Has good size and is effective in his own zone, although he is not terribly physical (in fact, he is one of the few defensemen to win the Lady Byng Trophy). Has excellent defensive instincts and awareness in his own zone, and his possession numbers and plus/minus ratings show that he is effective in a shutdown role, while still providing enough offense to earn 20-plus minutes of ice time per night.
Long Range Potential: Elite two-way defenseman.
