The Panthers placed Mathis (knee) on injured reserve Saturday.

Head coach Dave Canales told reporters Friday that Mathis tore his ACL and will undergo surgery, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
Scouting Report
The aggressive cornerback attacks receiver blocks, is solid in run support and tackles like a safety. He has good anticipation and ball skills but lacks the kind of top-end speed and coverage skills to play press coverage. He can be effective covering short and intermediate zones but is not likely to succeed as a Cover 3 corner at the NFL level.
Long Range Potential: Aggressive cornerback with a little upside.
