Fernando and the Hawks intend to push back the guarantee deadline on his contract to July 10, Lauren L. Williams of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Fernando contributed 12 points (3-5 FG, 6-6 FT), two rebounds and one assist over 21 minutes during Sunday's 157-115 loss to Indiana.
His raw tools are what NBA teams look for in a modern center: he's highly athletic and fluid for a guy his size, and he has a huge wingspan that helps him dominate as a rim protector and as a finisher in the paint. He additionally shows solid hoops instincts, a great physique, and a solid shooting stroke to keep defenses honest. A diamond in the rough. He is still a bit raw overall, but especially as a ball-handler, passer, and in terms of his overall fundamentals. He'll can be foul prone, and must show he can eventually depend as much on his skills and technique as on his fantastic physical tools.
