METS GET LEADOFF MAN YOUNG

The New York Mets acquired outfielder Eric Young from the Colorado Rockies for pitcher Collin McHugh.

What does it give the New York Mets
In Young, the Mets land a speedy switch-hitter who is capable of batting leadoff and play all three outfield positions (two areas of significant need in Queens). Look for Young to play close to every day because of what he brings to the table. His presence should allow the Mets to keep {P Lucas Duda} at first base (he was recently moved there from left field), while keeping {P Daniel Murphy} at second base (instead of moving over to first). This move should help the Mets offense.

What does it give the Colorado Rockies
The Rockies had designated Young for assignment recently, so they at least got an asset in return for his services in McHugh (who for now will pitch at Double-A Tulsa). McHugh had been designated for assignment as well but he's a serviceable arm who can pitch out of the rotation and as a reliever, so he could get called up to the bigs by Colorado at some point later this season. At the end of the day, the Rockies acquired some depth for an outfielder they no longer needed.

Fantasy impact
Young may benefit greatly from this deal, since the path appears clear for him to receive ample playing time in the Mets outfield. Therefore, he now has plenty of sleeper appeal. McHugh isn't much of a fantasy factor, regardless of where he pitches, so this move is lateral in terms of his fantasy value.
