This is a straight swap of catchers. McGuire could wind up backing up Yasmani Grandal in Chicago this season. Collins had been sent down to Triple-A Charlotte, so Seby Zavala or McGuire will be the No. 2 backstop on Chicago's South side this season.
What does it give the Toronto Blue Jays
The Blue Jays will likely go with Danny Jansen and Alejandro Kirk behind the plate this season, with Collins expected to play Triple-A ball and be the first catcher recalled in case of injury. This trade is a way to give Kirk more playing time in the big leagues.
