BRAVES, MARINERS SWAP THREE RELIEVERS
The Atlanta Braves acquired pitcher Anthony Swarzak and cash from the Seattle Mariners for pitchers Arodys Vizcaino and Jesse Biddle.
What does it give the Atlanta Braves
In Swarzak, the Braves land a 33-year-old veteran right-hander with closing experience in MLB (9, including 3 this season with Seattle). He can strike batters out, too, but struggled with the M's in 2019. The change of scenery should help Swarzak, who pitched in the NL last season with the Mets and two seasons ago with the Brewers.
What does it give the Seattle Mariners
While Seattle sent a little cash to Atlanta in this deal, the Mariners were motivated to dump Swarzak's salary here. Vizcaino is a true dart-throw for Seattle, as he is done for the season due to a torn labrum. The M's will try to re-sign him to a cheap contract for 2020, when he is due to return to action. Biddle adds a left-hander to Seattle's bullpen.
Fantasy impact
Swarzak might get a few save opportunities, eventually, in Atlanta but he is expected to start out as a middle reliever. Therefore, take a wait-and-see approach with him. As for Biddle, his value is limited. Vizcaino might have some value next season when he returns from injury, but right now he is not worth keeping on a fantasy roster.
