Richards struck out one over two scoreless innings of relief in Monday's 7-3 loss to the Red Sox. He gave up no hits and one walk in the 33-pitch appearance.
Richards will draw the start for the Blue Jays in Saturday's matchup with the Guardians, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com repports.
Owns an outstanding changeup, which is a true out-pitch for him. Also commands his average fastball--which deceives batters both because of his effective changeup and also because of his quirky motion--with aplomb. His curveball is nothing to write home about, and he lacks a fourth pitch, so he may not have the arsenal to stick as a big-league starting pitcher over time. Also, he could stand to add more bulk to his 6-2 frame for better stamina.
Long Range Potential: Solid right-hander with a little upside.
