Alvarado gave up a hit and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday to record his 12th save of the season in a 4-1 win over the Red Sox.
Alvarado (1-3) suffered the loss Sunday, allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits and two walks over 0.2 innings against the Mets. He struck out two.
While also capable of starting, he appears to have found a niche pitching out of the bullpen. A hard-throwing left-hander, he can strike plenty of batters out due to a strong fastball-curveball combination. Struggles to throw his changeup for strikes, which is a big reason why he is now pitching out of the bullpen. Has difficulty repeating his delivery. Lacks ideal height for MLB. Needs to keep his weight down.
Long Range Potential: Quality, hard-throwing left-hander with some upside.
