Okert will serve as the Astros' opening pitcher in Tuesday's game versus the Marlins, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
The Astros selected Okert's contract from Triple-A Sugar Land on Thursday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
A deceptive left-hander, he fools hitters with both his low arm angle and weird delivery (he is a nightmare for left-handed batters to deal with). Locates his pitches well and displays pretty good control. It takes a bit of time to figure him out, but hitters eventually do (which makes him somewhat limited to situational duties at the highest level). Needs more weapons against right-handed bats.
Long Range Potential: Situational left-hander.
