The Phillies and Sosa avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $4.4 million contract Thursday, Charlotte Varnes of The Athletic reports.

Sosa is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins.

Scouting Report

Owns an explosive bat with emerging power and the ability to hit for average at all levels. Runs pretty well and is a smart base-runner. Has a good arm and sound instincts for the shortstop position. Needs to become more selective at the dish, so as to produce better walk/strikeout ratios. Does not have great speed, so he is not a threat to steal bases at will. Is still a raw, unfinished product.

Long Range Potential: Talented, all-round shortstop with upside.
