Lorenzen (1-1) earned the win Wednesday over the Astros, allowing one run on seven hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out four.

Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer said Tuesday that Lorenzen wants to be available to pitch in relief on his between-starts bullpen session days, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Scouting Report

A very good athlete (he played center field in college, and was also the closer), he is effective in the pros due to a great heater and deceptive delivery. Keeps the ball down in the zone and breaks a lot of bats (with great movement). Needs to do a better job of getting strikeouts with his tremendous fastball in order to thrive in Major League Baseball. Also, he does not always command his arsenal well enough, so that needs to be improved. Injuries are also a factor here. His versatility is great because he can play in the outfield, if required.

Long Range Potential: Supremely athletic and versatile right-hander, when healthy.
