Wheeler (shoulder) is slated to have thoracic outlet decompression surgery Sept. 23, Charlotte Varnes of The Athletic reports.
The Phillies transferred Wheeler (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday.
Owns an explosive fastball, hard curve, tricky slider and workable changeup for an outstanding repertoire, overall. Can be an intimidating presence on the hill, partly due to his projectable 6-4 frame. Is also a good athlete. When he's not on top of his game, he is walking far too many batters. Over time, he has improved his control, however. Could also stand to add a little more bulk to his frame and avoid serious injuries.
Long Range Potential: Talented starter, when healthy.
