Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Wednesday that Wheeler (back) isn't certain to make his next start Sunday against the Athletics, though an MRI on the right-hander's back revealed no structural damage, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. "We'ree going to be very cautious with him...We'll know [Thursday]," Thomson said, when asked about Wheeler's status for Sunday.
Owns an explosive fastball, hard curve, tricky slider and workable changeup for an outstanding repertoire, overall. Can be an intimidating presence on the hill, partly due to his projectable 6-4 frame. Is also a good athlete. When he's not on top of his game, he is walking far too many batters. Over time, he has improved his control, however. Could also stand to add a little more bulk to his frame and avoid serious injuries.
Long Range Potential: Talented starter, when healthy.
