Donaldson (calf) took batting practice against right-hander Luis Gil at the Yankees' spring complex in Florida on Saturday, per MLB.com.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Friday that Donaldson (calf) is nearing a rehab assignment, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
Is a stellar offensive player, complete with excellent plate patience and home-run power. Has also settled in nicely at the hot corner and is solid defensively. Is also an intense competitor with some leadership ability. Strikes out his fair share. It took him a long time to put it all together in MLB and to find his niche as a third baseman (making the move from catcher). Injuries have become a big story later on in his baseball career.
Long Range Potential: Excellent, veteran third baseman, when healthy.
