Manager Torey Lovullo announced Friday that Melancon (shoulder) has been shut down for the year, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
Melancon (shoulder) allowed three runs in two-thirds of an inning Sunday in his first rehab appearance with Triple-A Reno.
Strikes out batters and is capable of being a strong late-inning option in the big leagues. Pitches with a lot of mound presence and guile. Has bounce-back ability and resiliency. Gets into trouble by walking too many batters, so control is quite vital in helping him succeed (but is not always present at the big-league level). Injury issues can be a problem.
Long Range Potential: Quality, veteran late-inning reliever.
