KINGS LAND MIKE RICHARDS

The Los Angeles Kings acquired center Mike Richards and forward Rob Bordson from the Philadelphia Flyers for winger Wayne Simmonds, center Brayden Schenn and a second-round draft pick in 2012.

What does it give the Los Angeles Kings
Richards brings that elusive second-line center that the Kings were seeking for a long, long time. His two-way game fits in perfectly well with how the Kings play. His leadership should also help Dustin Brown, and his play on special teams is also important here. The Kings paid a steep price but filled their biggest need in a huge way.

What does it give the Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers traded their captain 20 minutes after unloading fellow cornerstone center Jeff Carter. Like that deal, however, Philadelphia received a great return. In Simmonds, the Flyers landed an underrated forechecker and ideal third liner. Schenn could become Philly's 'next Mike Richards', and may also make a rookie impact. They also receive a future second rounder. The Flyers aren't done tinkering, but already look radically different.
