WEREK FOR LINDBERG

The Phoenix Coyotes acquired center Ethan Werek from the New York Rangers for center Oscar Lindberg.

What does it give the Phoenix Coyotes
While there's not a big talent or age gap between these two pivot prospects, Werek is more NHL-ready than Lindberg (in terms of both his physicality and his success at lower levels). That said, Werek's progress stalled somewhat last season, which may be why New York moved him here for the solid (but not spectacular) Lindberg. Werek will probably spend a year in the AHL before challenging for a roster spot with the 'Yotes.

What does it give the New York Rangers
Lindberg isn't quite as polished yet as Werek overall and isn't quite the same physical force, but he does have a good hockey IQ and a lot of skill. The Rangers have a serious lack of playmaking centers within their organization, so they did well to add one in Lindberg for a fair price here. He should spend a third season in the Elitserien in 2011-12, then make his way to North America.
