LEIGHTON TO CAROLINA

The Carolina Hurricanes acquired goaltender Michael Leighton from the Montreal Canadiens for a seventh-round draft pick in 2007.

What does it give the Carolina Hurricanes
A third-string goaltender, plain and simple. If anything happens to Cam Ward or John Grahame, Leighton will come in and be the backup. There's a chance he could challenge Grahame for the backup job in training camp.

What does it give the Montreal Canadiens
With the pick, 192nd overall, the Habs ended up selecting Scott Kishel--a defenseman out of high school. Since Leighton was well down the depth chart, the Habs had no need for him anymore and took what they could get.
