SCOTT WALKER NOW A CAP

The Washington Capitals acquired winger Scott Walker from the Carolina Hurricanes for a seventh-round draft pick in 2010.

What does it give the Washington Capitals
Walker is a gritty veteran that should help the Capitals with their playoff push. He has seen and done it all at the NHL level, and adds leadership and sound work ethic. At this stage of his career, Walker is mainly a fourth-line player. Even so, he will help Washington.

What does it give the Carolina Hurricanes
The Hurricanes are trying to add assets for the future, so they were happy that Walker agreed to waive his no-trade clause to go to D.C. They'll receive a seventh rounder in return but, more importantly, open up a roster spot for a younger player to step in.
