HABS GET SMITH-PELLY FOR SEKAC

The Montreal Canadiens acquired winger Devante Smith-Pelly from the Anaheim Ducks for winger Jiri Sekac.

What does it give the Montreal Canadiens
This is a trade that should help both teams. The Habs needed a more tenacious, physical player and were looking for a right-winger--since they've been forced to use Sekac, {P Brandon Prust} and {P Alex Galchenyuk} (among others) this season on their off-wing. Smith-Pelly fits the bill as a versatile right-handed shooter and is only 22 years old (with some untapped potential as a scorer).

What does it give the Anaheim Ducks
The Ducks continue to search for a scoring winger to play with {P Ryan Getzlaf} and {P Corey Perry} this season, and lately even tried splitting the dynamic duo up. Sekac is also 22 years old but is in his rookie NHL campaign. He's had a few ups but mostly downs this season. An offensive player mostly, he should thrive under Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau (especially if he lands on the top line).

Fantasy impact
Both Smith-Pelly and Sekac should excel for their new teams, mostly because they both bring something needed to their new organizations. Furthermore, both are young enough to reach their vast potential. Both players need to be picked up if still available in most fantasy leagues.
