OTHMANN FOR BATTAGLIA
The Calgary Flames acquired winger Brennan Othmann from the New York Rangers for winger Jacob Battaglia.
What does it give the Calgary Flames
Othmann gets a fresh start in Calgary after not finding much success during his first NHL stint with New York. The 2021 first-round pick does not have much more to prove in the minor leagues, so he should get a chance to find his game soon with the retooling Flames.
What does it give the New York Rangers
The Rangers move on from Othmann and get a younger prospect in return. Battaglia was selected in the second round of the 2024 draft. A strong winger, he has put up good offensive stats in junior hockey. New York is betting on the potential of Battaglia, who is still just 19 years old.
Fantasy impact
Othmann was a fantasy prospect of note fairly recently, so keep an eye on him when he gets his first look with the Flames. As for Battaglia, he is still a ways away from earning an NHL call-up, but he will be a prospect to watch in the Rangers system in the next few years.
