CAPITALS ACQUIRE LILJEGREN
The Washington Capitals acquired defenseman Timothy Liljegren from the San Jose Sharks for a fourth-round draft pick in 2026.
What does it give the Washington Capitals
In Liljegren, the Capitals bring in a puck-moving right defenseman. He will help fill the void left by the trade of John Carlson and should step into a regular role–potentially paired with his former Toronto defense partner Rasmus Sandin. Liljegren contributed 11 points in 43 games with the Sharks.
What does it give the San Jose Sharks
Liljegren was in and out of the Sharks lineup this season, so they opted to move the pending unrestricted free agent to Washington. The Sharks got a draft pick back and will move forward with young defensemen like Sam Dickinson and Shakir Mukhamadullin playing a regular role.
Fantasy impact
Liljegren might get a look on Washington's second power-play unit, but he likely won't do enough to be rostered in fantasy leagues. There are better options.
