GARLAND GOES TO COLUMBUS
The Columbus Blue Jackets acquired winger Conor Garland from the Vancouver Canucks for a third-round-draft pick in 2026 and a second-round draft pick in 2028.
What does it give the Columbus Blue Jackets
Garland is a big upgrade on the wing for Columbus as they push for the playoffs. He is having a down year on offense but he works hard and plays a reliable two-way game. The Blue Jackets must like him as a long-term fit, too, as his six-year contract extension kicks in after this season.
What does it give the Vancouver Canucks
The last-place Canucks continue to sell. As they retool, they get out of Garland's long-term contract. Still, the veteran winger has a lot of value, so Vancouver was able to secure two solid draft picks here without retaining any of his salary. The Canucks have a lot more work to do before the deadline.
Fantasy impact
The 29-year-old Garland's role is likely to be similar in Columbus, so do not expect too much more offense from him after this trade. Still, he gets a small boost leaving behind the Canucks, one of the lowest-scoring teams in the league.
