STANLEY AND SCHENN SENT TO BUFFALO

The Buffalo Sabres acquired defensemen Logan Stanley and Luke Schenn from the Winnipeg Jets for defenseman Jacob Bryson, winger Isak Rosen, a second-round draft pick in 2027 and a conditional fourth-round draft pick in 2026.

What does it give the Buffalo Sabres
Buffalo brings in two defenders from Winnipeg after their reported deal for Colton Parayko fell through. Stanley and Schenn add toughness and even more size to the Sabres blueline. Stanley should take on a bottom-four D role, and he comes over amid a career year (21 points through 59 games). Schenn is likely to be a No. 6-7 defenseman. He is also a Stanley Cup winner and great veteran, which should help in the room as Buffalo looks to go on a playoff run this season.

What does it give the Winnipeg Jets
With this trade, Winnipeg gets younger and adds two draft picks amid a disappointing season. Bryson, a puck-moving defender, was not getting much ice time in Buffalo this season. He now has a better opportunity with the Jets, who are facing injuries and losing Stanley and Schenn. As for Rosen, the 2021 first-round pick has been a prolific scorer in the AHL. The Jets are not getting much depth scoring, so he should get a long look in the near future.

Fantasy impact
Stanley's modest breakout year probably will not continue in Buffalo, as he may see less ice time and no power-play usage. Meanwhile, Rosen is worth keeping an eye on when Winnipeg calls him up. He has upside and just needs to prove himself at the NHL level. Schenn and Bryson will remain off the fantasy radar.
