AVALANCHE ADD CENTER NICOLAS ROY
The Colorado Avalanche acquired center Nicolas Roy from the Toronto Maple Leafs for a conditional fifth-round draft pick in 2026 and a conditional first-round draft pick in 2027.
What does it give the Colorado Avalanche
The Avalanche were in the market for a center to play in the bottom six and were able to land a good one here in Roy. He is big and a right shooter, which are both valuable assets at this time of year. Roy is signed through 2026-27, so he will be part of the Avalanche organization for a while.
What does it give the Toronto Maple Leafs
For Toronto, this deal is all about recuperating assets–assets that were spent at this time last season when the Maple Leafs thought they were Stanley Cup contenders. Now, they are languishing near the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings. Roy was not a good fit with Toronto.
Fantasy impact
Roy will be a solid performer for the Avalanche but his fantasy impact will likely be minimal. The first-rounder in '27 is top-10 protected, so the timeline for that draft pick to surface in the NHL is long term.
