SHERWOOD SENT TO SAN JOSE
The San Jose Sharks acquired winger Kiefer Sherwood from the Vancouver Canucks for defenseman Cole Clayton, a second-round draft pick in 2026 and a second-round draft pick in 2027.
What does it give the San Jose Sharks
In Sherwood, the Sharks add a gritty and versatile winger who can also contribute on offense. He can play up and down the lineup, and on both special teams. After an unexpectedly strong first half, San Jose is going for it here, and they did not pay all that high of a price for Sherwood. He could end up being a rental, but he is a solid upgrade for their middle-six forwards.
What does it give the Vancouver Canucks
The last-place Canucks continue to sell. They were probably hoping for a first-round draft pick in exchange for Sherwood, but two second-rounders is a decent return for a 30-year-old rental player who is also currently injured. Meanwhile, the addition of Clayton is more about Vancouver taking on a contract. The undrafted 25-year-old has spent the last five seasons in the AHL, where he will likely remain.
Fantasy impact
Sherwood will remain a valuable fantasy player. Few players throw as many hits as he does, and he has proven himself as a depth scorer the last few seasons. His production for the rest of the season will depend on where he fits in the San Jose lineup, but he could get a boost if he can secure a spot as a top-six winger once healthy.
