SAN JOSE TAKES ON THE ELLIS CONTRACT

The Philadelphia Flyers acquired winger Carl Grundstrom and defenseman Artem Guryev from the San Jose Sharks for a conditional sixth-round draft pick in 2026 and defenseman Ryan Ellis.

What does it give the Philadelphia Flyers
For the Flyers, this trade is mainly about the cap space from moving Ellis's contract. Grundstrom can be a serviceable bottom-six checking winger, but he may also serve as depth in the minors this season. Guryev also adds organizational depth on defense, though he has spent most of the past two seasons at the ECHL level.

What does it give the San Jose Sharks
The Sharks are taking on Ellis's contract for salary cap reasons, as they will likely trade away veterans and be close to the salary floor this season. They previously acquired the Carey Price contract from Montreal for similar reasons. They are still early in their rebuild, so this move also gets them another draft pick.

Fantasy impact
This trade will not have a fantasy impact. Grundstrom is the lone current NHLer and he is typically only a part-time player. He may not even make the Flyers out of the gate.
