DILLON DEALT TO THE CAPITALS

The Washington Capitals acquired defenseman Brenden Dillon from the San Jose Sharks for a second-round draft pick in 2020 and a conditional third-round draft pick in 2021.

What does it give the Washington Capitals
In Dillon, the Capitals get a hard-nosed defenseman who should fit in well with the 2018 Stanley Cup champions. A potential unrestricted free agent this summer, Dillon will only cost $1.635 million on the salary cap. Washington has struggled lately, so it is no surprise that they made a move before the trade deadline this year. More to come?

What does it give the San Jose Sharks
The Sharks may not be throwing in the towel, officially, but trading one of their pending UFAs seems like a good idea here. In exchange for Dillon (San Jose retained 50 percent of his salary), the Sharks will get Colorado's second pick in '20 and a third-round pick in '21 (which can become a third in '20 if the Capitals win the Stanley Cup this spring).

Fantasy impact
Dillon will remain a defenseman with negligible fantasy value after this trade. In fact, he should lose some ice time in Washington. So, if anything, his stock could go down in D.C.
