COYOTES, 'HAWKS SWAP THREE YOUNG FORWARDS

The Arizona Coyotes acquired forward Nick Schmaltz from the Chicago Blackhawks for winger Brendan Perlini and center Dylan Strome.

What does it give the Arizona Coyotes
This is a very interesting move by both struggling squads. Schmaltz is a nice addition for Arizona. The versatile Schmaltz has played mostly wing for Chicago this season but look for him to play center with the Coyotes (since they have a real need for help down the middle, especially with Strome traded and Christian Dvorak injured and out for the season). Schmaltz should help Arizona immensely.

What does it give the Chicago Blackhawks
Chicago is clearly looking to shake up the roster this season, especially after firing longtime coach Joel Quenneville and struggling for victories this season. Perlini and Strome have potential, and both probably needed a change of scenery, so this move could pan out nicely for Chicago. At worst, the Blackhawks added quantity here with a two-for-one swap. Strome has history with Alex DeBrincat from their junior days, so perhaps that combination will be revived at the NHL level.

Fantasy impact
All three young players should get a nice spike in fantasy value after this trade, as Schmaltz should see more ice time in Arizona (at his natural center position) and both Perlini and Strome have a chance to break out offensively with Chicago. All three players should be picked up in most league formats (if still available).
