KINGS ACQUIRE BIG WINGER IMAMA
The Los Angeles Kings acquired winger Bokondji Imama from the Tampa Bay Lightning for a conditional seventh-round draft pick in 2018.
What does it give the Los Angeles Kings
The Kings do not have a lot of time to sign Imama, since he needs to be under contract before June 1, which is why they were able to obtain his rights so cheaply. Imama is a project, power forward type coming off a breakthrough campaign in the QMJHL (41 goals). If signed, he will likely spend 2017-18 in the AHL.
What does it give the Tampa Bay Lightning
The Lightning were able to secure a late-round pick for Imama's rights, assuming he actually signs with the Kings before the June 1 deadline. Tampa Bay originally drafted Imama in the sixth round (No. 180 overall) in 2015 but were not able to/interested in signing the strapping, physical winger. They have moved on.
Fantasy impact
Imama is a very intriguing winger because of his goal-scoring outburst in 2016-17 with the Saint John Sea Dogs (QMJHL), but he is likely at least one season (and probably more) away from reaching the NHL. Still, he should be squarely on the fantasy radar at this time.
