JUSTIN FIELDS JOINING THE CHIEFS

The Kansas City Chiefs acquired quarterback Justin Fields from the New York Jets for a sixth-round draft pick in 2027.

What does it give the Kansas City Chiefs
With Patrick Mahomes recovering from knee surgery, the Chiefs felt the need to bring in a veteran backup this off-season. Fields struggled badly with the Jets last season but should be a serviceable No. 2 in Kansas City. The Chiefs hope Fields will not be needed on the field a lot in 2026.

What does it give the New York Jets
After failing miserably as the Jets' starting quarterback in 2025, Fields was expected to be released this off-season. Instead, the Jets were able to get a late draft pick in 2027 for him. The Chiefs also took on some of Fields' salary, so this deal can only be described as a win for the struggling Jets.

Fantasy impact
Fields is not a viable fantasy quarterback, despite owning the fantasy QB tools for success. Perhaps he could be a decent handcuff for many Mahomes owners in keeper formats.
