OLYNYK TO BEANTOWN FOR NOGUEIRA'S RIGHTS

The Boston Celtics acquired the rights to center-power forward Kelly Olynyk from the Dallas Mavericks for the rights to center Lucas Nogueira and two second-round draft picks in 2014.

What does it give the Boston Celtics
During draft night reports surfaced that Boston has traded veteran stars {P Kevin Garnett}, {P Paul Pierce}, and {P Jason Terry} to Brooklyn in return for several mostly not-as-stellar players. That means the rebuild is on in Beantown, and adding Olynyk can help with that. Moving up three spots in the draft (from No. 13 overall to No. 16) cost the Celts three assets (the No. 16 and the two future second-rounders) so clearly they wanted the more NBA-ready of the two players.

What does it give the Dallas Mavericks
The Mavs quickly moved Nogueira to Atlanta--along with combo guard {P Jared Cunningham} and the rights to eventual No. 44 pick {P Mike Muscala}) to get the No. 18 overall pick (point guard {P Shane Larkin}) and cash. The latter deal is a fairly sweet move for Big D, since Larkin is probably a safer selection than Nogueira and is a needed point guard for the Mavericks. Dallas also saves money by adding cash and dropping the need to pay Cunningham and Muscala.

Fantasy impact
Olynyk probably has solid (if not great) fantasy value as an NBA rookie this year, since he can score and rebound fairly well and will probably get to play fairly regularly on the suddenly talent-thin Celtics. His arrival probably adversely affects the fantasy prospects of {P Brandon Bass}, but much also obviously depends on who arrives from the Nets in the mega-trade. As for the Mavs, Larkin is an excellent point guard prospect who can and probably will start for them soon and pile up a lot of assists and points (if not a lot of steal or rebounds). His arrival in the Lone Star state probably means {P Darren Collison} comes off the bench again moving forward.
