GRIZZ SEND LOWRY TO HOUSTON
The Houston Rockets acquired guard Kyle Lowry from the Memphis Grizzlies for a future first-round draft pick (previously acquired from the Orlando Magic).
What does it give the Houston Rockets
This is the second part of a three-team deal, as Houston takes the future first-round pick they got from Orlando (when they sent the Magic star point guard Rafer Alston), and they flip the pick to the Grizzlies for Lowry. So effectively, this is a future first-rounder for Lowry. An interesting gamble, as Lowry has shown star potential at times in his brief NBA career, but is not exactly a sure thing. In the short term he will back up equally-promising young point-man Aaron Brooks running the Rockets' offense.
What does it give the Memphis Grizzlies
The Grizz may have pulled off a minor steal here. Lowry was himself a first-round draft pick (No.24 overall back in 2006) and has a lot of talent, but he was stuck behind starter Mike Conley in Memphis. With Conley becoming the clear-cut go-to distributor following the team's recent head coaching change, Lowry became expendable. The Grizzlies also open up a roster spot and improve their future draft prospects (while also dropping a little salary), so this is a multi-faceted win for them.
