RAPS REEL IN PROMISING FORWARD JOHNSON
The Toronto Raptors acquired combo forward James Johnson from the Chicago Bulls for a 2011 first-round draft pick.
What does it give the Toronto Raptors
Pretty quietly the Raptors have been stockpiling some very athletic young talents, and Johnson adds yet another to the mix. Capable of playing either small forward or power forward well, Johnson has the tools to eventually be an above-average starter. The Raps weren't likely to get a player as good as Johnson at this summer's draft with the first-rounder (since it was originally the Heat's, and their great finish this season should guarantee the pick will land in the bottom five of the draft). Johnson won't likely play big minutes soon, but as the 16th overall pick of 2009 he definitely has upside.
What does it give the Chicago Bulls
The Bulls already have their core in place for the next several years, so moving Johnson saves them some money for a player who clearly wasn't in their rotation plans. Chicago already has quality players backing up both forward spots (in Taj Gibson and Kyle Korver) so they get back a solid pick here for Johnson that could eventually help them at a position of greater need (such as shooting guard).
