THOME BACK IN CLEVELAND
The Cleveland Indians acquired first baseman/designated hitter Jim Thome from the Minnesota Twins for cash.
What does it give the Cleveland Guardians
Thomes returns to Cleveland, his original home, with a chance at reaching the postseason--though the Tribe have work to do in order to catch Detroit. With Travis Hafner likely done for the season due to a foot issue, Thome's power and leadership from the DH slot will come in handy down the stretch.
What does it give the Minnesota Twins
The Twins have had a miserable season, and they're now in selling mode. Giving Thome another shot at the postseason is a nice gesture by Minnesota, especially sending him back to his original club (Cleveland). The Twins aren't expected to land a big-time prospect in this deal.
