BRADLEY SHIPPED TO OAKLAND
The Oakland Athletics acquired outfielder Milton Bradley and infielder Antonio Perez from the Los Angeles Dodgers for minor-league outfielder Andre Ethier.
What does it give the Oakland Athletics
A talented outfielder with a reputation as trouble in the clubhouse heads to Oakland. During the Billy Beane era this is a club that has become known for employing team players, and Bradley can't always be said to fall into that category. And, at 27, he's only had more than 377 at-bats in a season once due to injuries and demotions. That said, if the A's can keep him calm and healthy, he'll give them a strong switch-hitting bat in the middle of their lineup, able to hit for average with some speed and some power. Meanwhile, Perez comes to town to fill in around the infield. He's still young, at 25, and has shown impressive potential in the minors as a slugging infielder and could work his way into more playing time if he out-hits second baseman Mark Ellis.
What does it give the Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers hope they've landed a prize in the 23-year-old Ethier. He was named MVP of the Double-A Texas League in 2005 thanks to his newfound power and always consistent ability to line the ball to all fields. After a year at Triple-A in 2006, he could be ready to challenge for a job on the big club.
