GIANTS ACQUIRE KEPPINGER
The San Francisco Giants acquired infielder Jeff Keppinger from the Houston Astros for pitchers Henry Sosa and Jason Stoffel.
What does it give the San Francisco Giants
The Giants have been hurting in the infield all season long, so Keppinger should help a little here. He's a natural second baseman who can also play short, third and first if need be. Keppinger may play all over, but he'll likely be in the lineup (batting second) most nights down the stretch.
What does it give the Houston Astros
The Astros have decided to start their firesale early, as this is just the first of many expected moves for them. With Keppinger gone, the 'Stros want to give Jose Altuve a look at second base. Sosa and Stoffel have decent upside. Sosa can be either a starter or reliever; Stoffel is strictly a reliever at this point.
