SEATTLE ADDS FLAMETHROWER CAMINERO
The Seattle Mariners acquired pitcher Arquimedes Caminero from the Pittsburgh Pirates for two players to be named later.
What does it give the Seattle Mariners
Caminero has been a dominant strikeout reliever in the minors over his career--with 457 punchouts over 373.1 innings there--but the 29-year-old hasn't been quite as unhittable in MLB. Guys who can literally throw 100 miles per hour are hard to find, so clearly Seattle hopes to figure out how to get Caminero to harness his electric stuff.
What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
It's somewhat curious the Pirates are giving up on Caminero here, especially since he's been pitching well lately (and, as mentioned, has an explosive fastball). That said, he is also still walk-prone despite advancing age, and the Pirates get both a player to be named later plus other considerations--which isn't a bad haul overall.
Fantasy impact
Caminero wasn't getting a lot of work in high-leverage, late-inning situations for Pittsburgh (so nothing changes fantasy-wise for anyone on the Pirates), but that may change in Seattle--where he is now a bit more radar-worthy as a member of the Mariners. If he gets into the holds or saves mix for Seattle, snap him up.
