JAYS GET RELIEVER STOREN FROM THE NATS
The Toronto Blue Jays acquired pitcher Drew Storen and cash from the Washington Nationals for outfielder Ben Revere and a player to be named later.
What does it give the Toronto Blue Jays
In Storen, the Blue Jays land a quality, proven late-inning reliever who is a good bet to take over in the ninth inning for Toronto. He will team with young Roberto Osuna to form a dynamic duo in the bullpen (or it may allow Toronto to convert Osuna back to a starting pitcher). With Revere gone, the Jays will probably use Michael Saunders and Junior Lake in a platoon situation in left field.
What does it give the Washington Nationals
The Nationals needed a center-fielder following the departure of Denard Span (who signed with the San Francisco Giants as a free agent). Therefore, adding the speedy Revere makes sense. He will compete with Michael Taylor and Brian Goodwin for playing time in center. With Storen gone, veteran Jonathan Papelbon may stick around as the Nats' default closer (though he might still be dealt, too).
Fantasy impact
Storen's fantasy value remains the same, since he was sharing save opportunities in D.C. (and may do so again in Canada with Osuna). If Osuna moves to the rotation, Storen's value increases significantly. As for Revere, he should hold his fantasy value too, provided he beats out Taylor and Goodwin and plays most of the time in center. Saunders, Lake and Papelbon all figure to benefit after this trade.
