The Tampa Bay Rays acquired catcher Hank Conger from the Houston Astros for cash.
What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
In Conger, the Rays get a solid offensive catcher who could (finally) be ready to take over a No. 1 role. However, Tampa Bay has depth behind the plate (Curt Casali, Luke Maile and Rene Rivera), so expect Conger to share the load in 2016.
What does it give the Houston Astros
The Astros were not likely to tender Conger a contract before the deadline, so at least they were able to receive cash in exchange for his services. Houston will move forward with Jason Castro and Max Stassi as their catching duo in '16.
Fantasy impact
Conger's fantasy value should get a spike here, as he has a less established group of catchers to displace in Tampa Bay. Consider Conger a sleeper heading into 2016.
