METS BRING BACK OF YOUNG JR. FOR DEPTH
The New York Mets acquired outfielder Eric Young Jr. from the Atlanta Braves for cash.
What does it give the New York Mets
The NL-East-leading Mets look likely to play some close games down the stretch (and in the playoffs, assuming they qualify) and Young can help them in those situations. New York is near the bottom of the majors in steals and team speed is not a strength, so adding Young--a player who has spent significant time on the Mets in the past--is an excellent depth move. Look for him to provide pinch running fairly regularly for his new/old club.
What does it give the Atlanta Braves
The Braves are out of playoff contention and Young wasn't a core player for them, so getting something in return for him here is a solid move. Young's affordable contract expires after this season, so saving some money (while adding some cash) and opening up a little playing time for younger players is a no-brainer for Atlanta.
Fantasy impact
Once Young gets called up by the Mets he should be a fairly key bench player for them, but don't expect much at all fantasy-wise; even if your team is desperate for steals, Young won't likely play enough (as a situational depth guy) to provide steady production. Similarly, for the Braves, losing Young has little fantasy impact.
