BLANTON MOVES BACK TO PENNSYLVANIA
The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired pitcher Joe Blanton from the Kansas City Royals for cash.
What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
The Bucs are still very much in the playoff hunt and could use another serviceable right-hander who can be used both as a starter or reliever. They already have Vance Worley as an insurance policy for their starting rotation, so Blanton simply adds more depth in that area.
What does it give the Kansas City Royals
The Royals had already designated Blanton for assignment (following the acquisition of ace starter Johnny Cueto), so they did well here to at least get back a little money in return for Blanton's services. The role of swingman in KC could now fall to Kris Medlen (who just returned from the DL).
Fantasy impact
Blanton doesn't have much fantasy value at this point, even if he were to land a spot in Pittsburgh's rotation (which is unlikely at this point).
