GIANTS LAND VETERAN SCUTARO

The San Francisco Giants acquired infielder Marco Scutaro and cash from the Colorado Rockies for infielder Charlie Culberson.

What does it give the San Francisco Giants
In Scutaro, the Giants land a veteran infielder who is plenty versatile and plenty experienced. He was Colorado's starting second baseman this season, but is expected to play more of a utility role in San Francisco. Scutaro is a clutch performer, so that too should help the contending Giants.

What does it give the Colorado Rockies
Culberson is a young second-base prospect with some upside, so there's a chance he'll be Scutaro's eventual successor as the Rockies' starting second baseman. He saw action in the big leagues earlier this season, but wasn't ready for Major League Baseball just yet. He has power for a middle infielder.
