TIGERS ADD SANCHEZ AND INFANTE

The Detroit Tigers acquired pitcher Anibal Sanchez and infielder Omar Infante from the Miami Marlins for pitchers Jacob Turner and Brian Flynn, and catcher Rob Brantly.

What does it give the Detroit Tigers
The Tigers needed help at second base, so Infante should help there. Meanwhile, Sanchez is an upgrade in their rotation, since they were using rookies in the fifth starter slot for most of 2012. They traded away a big package, including a potential stud starting pitcher in Turner and a sandwich draft pick between the second and third rounds of next year's First-Year Player Draft (the first time in MLB history that a draft pick was traded, as per the new CBA).

What does it give the Miami Marlins
The Marlins did well here to land a great pitching prospect in Turner for a starting pitcher (Sanchez) who was set to become a free agent this winter and a veteran second baseman who was overachieving in 2012. Miami also lands a decent catching prospect in Brantly, another pitching prospect in Flynn and a potential asset in the sandwich compensation draft pick. This should be the beginning of many moves for the underachieving Marlins.
