METS GET OF COWGILL FROM A'S

The New York Mets acquired outfielder Collin Cowgill from the Oakland Athletics for infielder Jefry Marte.

What does it give the New York Mets
Cowgill is a decent outfielder who can do a bit of everything (though nothing truly stands out in his game). Since he hits left-handers well, there's a chance he may wind up in a platoon in center field with {P Kirk Nieuwenhuis} when all is said and done. Cowgill runs well and can be a bit of a table-setter, something the Mets lack, so he may be given a chance to be the team's everyday leadoff man during spring training.

What does it give the Oakland Athletics
The Athletics needed room on their 40-man roster in order to sign Japanese shortstop {P Hiroyuki Nakajima}, so they decided to ship out Cowgill in order to acquire non-roster third-base prospect Marte (who is several years away from reaching the bigs, if ever he does so). Oakland did Cowgill a favor here, since they're loaded with outfielders: {P Josh Reddick}, {P Yoenis Cespedes}, {P Coco Crisp}, {P=4721 Chris Young} and {P Seth Smith}.

Fantasy impact
Cowgill has a bit of sleeper appeal for the Mets, who are fairly bereft of outfield talent at present time. His fantasy value will certainly receive a bit of a spike as a Met, since he was buried down the depth chart in Oakland. As for Marte, his long-range prognosis with the A's is better now that he is no longer behind {P David Wright} and {P Wilmer Flores} at the hot corner with the Mets. That said, he may never reach the bigs.
