REVERE GOES TO PHILLY IN 3-PLAYER SWAP
The Philadelphia Phillies acquired outfielder Ben Revere from the Minnesota Twins for pitchers Vance Worley and Trevor May.
What does it give the Philadelphia Phillies
This is a bit of a surprising deal, but it's quite intriguing. Revere will take over in center field for the Phillies, and likely be the team's long-term leadoff man. He's a very good table-setter with great base-stealing ability, and his defense is above-average as well. The Philly offense is getting a bit long in the tooth, so Revere should bring a modicum of life and energy to the team. That said, they paid a steep pitching price to net Revere.
What does it give the Minnesota Twins
The Twins earlier dealt regular center-fielder {P Denard Span} to Washington, so it was thought Revere would replace him. Instead, he was also dealt for what Minnesota needs most: quality young pitching. Worley should be a mainstay in the Twins rotation right away, while May has the potential to join the rotation later in 2013 (and stay there for a decade). With both Revere and Span gone, young {P Aaron Hicks} may get a shot in center field.
Fantasy impact
Revere is more comfortable in center field, and he is more of a National League type, so expect his fantasy value to go up a tick. He may display a little power (he has none to speak of at the moment) in the friendlier confines of Citizens' Bank Park, too. Worley's strikeout numbers may dip in the American League, but he will now pitch in a far more friendly pitchers' park (Target Field) in Minnesota, so his fantasy value should remain solid (if not spiked a little). May has good upside in keeper leagues, and his road to the bigs should be much quicker now that he's a Twin.
