RANGERS ADD BURNS FROM SAN DIEGO
The Texas Rangers acquired pitcher Cory Burns from the San Diego Padres for a player to be named later.
What does it give the Texas Rangers
In Burns, the Rangers add a 25-year-old reliever with some big-league experience and untapped upside. If he can do a better job of harnessing his pitches, he stands a chance to become a viable member of the Texas bullpen in 2013.
What does it give the San Diego Padres
The Padres decided to part ways with Burns, who was acquired from Cleveland in 2011. He didn't pitch well in his stint with San Diego, so the club decided to take a chance on someone else (after designating him for assignment).
Fantasy impact
There are currently openings in the Rangers' bullpen, so Burns has some fantasy sleeper appeal going into 2013. First, he'll need to prove he can pitch better in the big leagues, however.
